About We Love Buford Highway: We Love Buford Highway (WLBH) is a charitable, 501(c)(3) nonprofit preserving the multicultural identity of Atlanta’s Buford Highway. The organization sees the corridor’s communities, a ten-mile stretch that connects three metro municipalities, as the epicenter of an evolving south where immigrant communities thrive for generations. The potential risks and outcomes of activities that impact livelihoods of these communities, are issues where the organization seeks to work and impact through four major programming pillars: Story, Arts & Culture, Care, and Enterprise.
Over the course of the pandemic, WLBH served over 96,000 people through its Feeding Families program, 1,700 people within the Covid-19 vaccine initiatives, collected over 65 immigrant stories, and launched a children’s orchestra of 24 elementary students from local district schools. The organization began as an Instagram account to document a changing Buford Highway corridor, internationally recognized for its sizable immigrant population and businesses. The agency celebrates its fifth year in the summer of 2022.
Position Summary: This is an exciting part-time, entry-level opportunity to not only gaining an experiential career development portfolio and path, but to making a difference in the lives of the immigrant communities of Atlanta’s most revered and fast-changing corridor. This position will directly contribute towards WLBH’s mission-driven programming at the vital intersections of preservation, growth, clarity, and advocacy.
WLBH seeks a self-motivated, organized, compassionate, and data-driven individual to work alongside its leadership teams and partners to oversee planning, outreach, engagement, coordination, execution, and outcomes of WLBH’s programs. The ideal candidate will have deep personal connection, awareness, knowledge, and/or experience in serving immigrant communities in areas of advocacy, multicultural / multilingual, event coordination, and proactive interpersonal skillsets in communication (information gathering, impact, response, and accountability).
Responsibilities include (but not limited to) the following:
Represents the agency for its participation in the Listen 4 Good’s capacity building program.
Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of program materials (examples: agency podcast scripts, program brochures, collateral, etc.).
Plan, design, and execute processes and initiatives that support the collection of community information, attendance, and/or participatory release forms for events where such efforts apply.
Volunteer management coordination where needed.
Maintains and manages program and/or project records, field research, and data collection development including but not limited to event data, pre/post surveys for WLBH’s programs.
Point of contact between community participants and WLBH staff and partners.
Maintains a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, workshops, appearances, and other communication opportunities.
Assist in the organization of special events, including initial outreach, canvassing, event logistics, set-up, and break-down as needed.
Collect and analyze data (surveys and at events), developing results, and presenting the conclusions to the team.
Develop and/or learn to write press releases, brochures, and other marketing materials as needed.
Build positive relationships with existing and potential funding sources.
Support WLBH’s Community Engagement Director with outreach efforts (translations and interpretations) as needed.
Attend in-person events as needed.
Various tasks as needed to support the agency’s strategic goals
Minimum Qualifications:
B.A. in communications, marketing, humanities, business, or related fields
Proficient with research databases and understanding of demographics/city statistics
Proficient with MS Office, Word, and Excel, G Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working within the non-profit or philanthropic vertical
Experience working with immigrant, refugee, or civil rights communities
Experience coordinating volunteers and executing multilingual and multicultural events
Proven ability to work in remote office setting
Fully bilingual, written and spoken (English and Spanish), or (English and Chinese, Korean, or Vietnamese)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and with accuracy
Strong interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational skills
Time management and project management skills including the ability to set and meet deadlines
Familiar with digital platforms (G-suite, Square Space, social media platforms, Mailchimp, Canva, Zoom) to reach a diverse group of stakeholders and audiences
Must be available some nights and weekends
Have mode of transportation around Metro Atlanta
Deep understanding of multicultural immigrant communities
Salary and Benefits:
Starting salary is $ 28,000 / annually for up to 30 hours per week with paid vacation and sick leave
